Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience of horror films are interested mostly due to the thrills and the adrenaline rush from being fearful. The usual age for the horror genre is usually teenagers and young adults, that's why our target audience is 16-25 year old. The film may not be suitable for the ages of 15 and under, and people the over the age of 26 may not find the story credible and find it hard to fully engage with the film. In addition, we've chosen the 16-25 age group not only because of the genre, but as they are the most frequent people that go to the cinema. Research we have done has found that our target audience prefers, psychological and supernatural horrors, so we have Incorporated aspects of those genres of film to gain the attention of our audience and further improve the success of our film. Our research also found that the majority of boys enjoyed more violence and gore and the girls preferred the more thrilling and mysterious aspects of horror films, so its possible our film could be targeted to girls more than boys, as it leaves viewers in suspense and doesn't reveal all of the plot to create a sense of mystery. Furthermore, we have aimed for our film to attract a wide spread of different ethnicity's but our main group was white middle class teenagers and young adults. We were then left with a decision of whether to go for a specific target audience or a more broad audience. One advantage of having a more specific target audience is that it can be more tailor made. However, with a more broad target audience it is hard to deal with the more specific likes and dislikes. So we chose to have a niche audience who specifically like and enjoy supernatural/thriller horror.
